The 21st generation skit in Nigeria
According to sources, it was said that Babatunde Omidina (baba suwe) first started skit-making in Nigeria.
There’s no clarification on that because there was no proper record of history provided
But we could all agree that Instagram took the lead for skit videos in the 21st century.
If you’ve stayed longer in Nigeria you’ll really realize and Know that the one person who inspired many people in Nigeria
A guy called Emmanuel Ogonna Iwueke popularly known as Crazeclown, Dr craze, or Papa Ade.
Now before the rise of Crazeclown, there were other skits makers, such as Basket mouth, Bovi, AY to mention among others.
But no doubt Crazeclown started something unique that made him stand out in the skit and comedy Industry.
Before Crazeclown most other skit makers/comedians don’t really focus on skit-making
Rather they use skit videos just for shows promotion and their skits are usually longer than a minute.
The Revolution Crazeclown brought in the skit making industry
This post isn’t really focused on Mr. Crazeclown, but Crazeclown started making way shorter skit videos than one could imagine.
Videos are usually fifteen seconds or 30 seconds long, and you just couldn’t help but laugh because these videos are actually funny.
At that moment Instagram became the center of these videos and Crazeclown gained fame on Instagram.
Soon the 15-30secs long videos became the deal of the day, and everyone started making skit videos and posting on Instagram.
The One Minute Revolution in Nigeria
Long after Crazeclowns fame, many others were inspired and many also thought of choosing skit making as a major career.
Years later a guy called Sydney Egere popularly called Sydneytalker started skit making and later gained fame through it.
His style of videos had a different and unique style from that of Crazeclown, his videos are not 15seconds short but rather 1minutes long.
Because as of that time the maximum duration of video accepted by Instagram was one minute which is just sixty seconds.
Sydney gained fame through Instagram skits and gained a lot of followers, soon many other online Instagram skit makers started emerging.
Among others were Nastyblaq, Okiki, Etc.
Skit Industry in General
Of course no doubt you thought I missed out on your favorite comedians, Nah I didn’t.
This post wasn’t dedicated to Crazeclown or Sydney talker but these guys were actually Game changers who built reputations that others started copying from.
